About Our School

Mission Statement:

Guinn Martial Arts strives to teach fun, effective and pragmatic self defense and physical fitness through the martial arts.

Core Values:

Veracity – habitual observance in truth of speech or actions, truthfulness
Pragmatism – character or conduct emphasizing the practical
Traditional – of, pertaining to, or characteristics of the old styles

Guinn Martial Arts adheres to these core values in all aspects of our business. We believe very strongly in making a habit out of truthfulness, we will always be honest with our students and we expect our students to always be honest with each other and the instructors. We find this is very important especially working in the Martial Arts and Self Defense industry. There are many schools who teach Martial Arts in a sport based context. There is nothing wrong with learning and practicing Martial Arts in a sport based context, unless the school tries to sell that as self defense. Guinn Martial Arts will always make clear which context applies to each class/situation/technique, be it sport, for fun, or self defense.

In addition Guinn Martial Arts considers itself a Progressive Traditionalist school. This means that we take all the pragmatic information found in the Martial Arts and bring it up to speed so it fits with present day context. We teach real self defense, not MMA or Tournament fighting. We believe it is important to empower our students with techniques that will actually work in a life or death situation and that they are aware of the difference between self defense and martial arts. Students will not only learn Martial Arts, Self Defense Techniques, and Physical Fitness/Nutrition, but they will also be made aware of the legal and psychological rammifications that comes with having to defend yourself on the street.
